August Recap

August has been the month that summer finally hit England (better late than never I suppose) and now I’m holding my breath waiting for the colder weather to hit because it’s just too hot.

I managed to get through a fair more books this month, I also started taking part in another weekly feature which I am having a lot of fun with, and honestly not much else happened in August for me. Where July was a really busy month for me things seemed to calm down a little in August and I was able to devote a little more time to blogging. There are still a fair few things I want to do for my blog, creating a Goodreads account remains at the top of that list, but eventually I’ll get around to them all.

More Than This by Patrick Ness

I had no clue what to expect going into this book, and even while reading it I had no clue what was going on, but it was all part of the reading experience. I had so many theories throughout reading More Than This and even though none of them turned out to be 100% correct guessing was all part of the fun.

And I Darken by Kiersten White

There were so many amazing reviews for this book on WordPress so I was really excited to get started on it. And I Darken was completely different to what I expected it to be but not in a bad way. The book focuses on Lada’s life, it was enjoyable reading her journey and I can’t wait to see where she, Radu and Mehmed go in the next book.

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows

This was another book which I saw so many amazing reviews for. I got a copy of My Lady Jane from my June Owl Crate box, and I’m so glad I did because I’m not sure if I would have picked this book up otherwise. A humorous retelling of Jane Grey’s life but with a happier ending I was hooked from the first page to the last.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

I love Greek mythology so the fact that I hadn’t picked up this book before was a bit of a surprise. I haven’t read The Iliad but I knew how the story would end for both Achilles and Patroclus before going into The Song of Achilles. This book was heartbreaking; even when I knew what was coming I couldn’t quite believe it when it actually happened.

An Ember in the Ashes Series

I’ve had this series on my to-read list for a while, and when I received an ARC of A Torch Against the Night from YALC I knew I had to get started on it. I loved both books – the setting, the story, the characters – I didn’t even mind the love square going on. I thought the second book was even better than the first, and I hope the third book will carry on that trend.

P.S. I Like You by Kasie West

I haven’t read any of Kasie West’s books before, despite having them all on my to-read list. But when I saw an amazing five-star review on WordPress I immediately picked up P.S. I Like You and started reading. This book is a cute and fluffy YA contemporary, something I’d recommend for a quick afternoon read.

Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children Series

This is one of the series which I’ve had on my to-read list for a while now, but with the movie being released at the end of September I knew I had to pick up the first book at least. Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series is a completely unique concept and, although the first book wasn’t as good as the rest, books two and three were beyond amazing.

I haven’t got any set plans for what I’m going to read or do with my blog next month. I have a few ARC reviews which will be posted towards the end of September but otherwise it will be more of the same. I have put myself on a book buying ban, the reasons of which will be obvious to anyone who’s seen my book hauls for this month, so I may get around to some re-reads in September as well.
