Beware the goblin men and the wares they sell.

All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favour of more practical concerns.

But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts.

Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.

I’ve never read a book about goblin’s before so I’m not sure what to expect from Wintersong. Also the blurb makes it sound a little like the Labyrinth movie starring David Bowie, I’m not sure if that makes this book a retelling or a re-inspired take on the film. Either way it sounds amazing; Wintersong is another book high on my to-read list and one I can’t wait to get my hands on come 2017.

So what does everyone think; is Wintersong a must on anyone else’s to-read list or are there any other books that you can’t wait for to be released?

    1. I haven’t seen the film but I guess if I enjoy the book then I’ll have to check out the film as well. Hopefully it’s more of an inspired by than plain ripped off book you know?
That’s all right, I hope you enjoy this book as much as you enjoyed the film! 😀

    1. It’s definitely on my most anticipated releases list for next year! And I know what you mean. I’m trying to think of a book I’ve read with goblins and my minds a complete blank. I didn’t even have HP until you mentioned it!
Maybe they’ll end up being the next YA trend though! 🙂

  1. This book is also on my TBR. It’s peeked my interest because of the Goblin’s and I haven’t read a book that has them featured. Also am I the only one who gets Beauty and The Beast vibes with that cover?

    1. Yeah that’s why I added this book to my to-read list as well. I’m honestly not even sure if I have a book with goblins in on my to-read list!
Ohh now you mention it I definitely see what you mean about the Beauty and the Beast theme! It’s kind of made me want the book even more now! 😀
