Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which shines a light on eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.
This week my pick is;
Blood Rose Rebellion by Rosalyn Eves
Publisher: Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers
Release Date: 28th March 2017
The thrilling first book in a YA fantasy trilogy for fans of Red Queen. In a world where social prestige derives from a trifecta of blood, money, and magic, one girl has the ability to break the spell that holds the social order in place.
Sixteen-year-old Anna Arden is barred from society by a defect of blood. Though her family is part of the Luminate, powerful users of magic, she is Barren, unable to perform the simplest spells. Anna would do anything to belong. But her fate takes another course when, after inadvertently breaking her sister’s debutante spell – an important chance for a highborn young woman to show her prowess with magic – Anna finds herself exiled to her family’s once powerful but now crumbling native Hungary.
Her life might well be over.
In Hungary, Anna discovers that nothing is quite as it seems. Not the people around her, from her aloof cousin Noémi to the fierce and handsome gypsy Gábor. Not the society she’s known all her life, for discontent with the Luminate is sweeping the land. And not her lack of magic. Isolated from the only world she cares about, Anna still can’t seem to stop herself from breaking spells.
As rebellion spreads across the region, Anna’s unique ability becomes the catalyst everyone is seeking. In the company of nobles, revolutionaries, and gypsies, Anna must choose: deny her unique power and cling to the life she’s always wanted, or embrace her ability and change that world forever.
Admittedly I’m not a fan of Red Queen, but even though this book is described as ‘for fans of Red Queen’ it is still one I’m really excited for and one that sounds really amazing as well. Blood Rose Rebellion already has some glowing five-star reviews, plus the cover is gorgeous which never fails to sway me when it comes to buying new books.
So what does everyone think; is Blood Rose Rebellion a must on anyone else’s to-read list or are there any other books that you can’t wait for to be released?
This sounds so interesting! And that cover it absolutely gorgeous! Adding it to my TBR. 😃

In that case I hope you enjoy it when it’s released and you get around to reading it 🙂
It’s definitely an interesting concept, and if the story is as good as the cover its gonna be great!

That cover is seriously pretty! This story does sound interesting and I love the fact that it takes place in Hungary. 🙂 BUT I’m having some doubts about it. I just don’t know if it will be something that I’m going to enjoy. I might give it a chance, once more people read it. (So that I can see what the general thoughts are.) It’s just not on my priority list.

It’s definitely striking isn’t it? It’s what first caught my eye when I saw this book on Goodreads. I think there are a few people that are so so about it. It sounds like a great concept but at the same time it’s one of those things that could go either way you know. I guess we won’t know until we do read it! 😀

This one sounds interesting, and something I’d like to read! I always greatly dislike it when there’s some sort of discrimination towards people that can’t do anything to change it (blood for instance) but I hope that Anna Arden is able to carry people through this revolution!

It’s definitely an interesting subject to write a book about, there are so many ways it can be written as well and each idea can become something unique if it’s written well. This one does sound good, I have high-ish hopes for it but I guess I’ll have to wait for it’s release to find out if I enjoy it or not!

Ooh I hope you enjoy it! It really annoys me when they say “for fans of” as so often they don’t really compare! Hope it is good, sounds like one for the TBR pile.

Same here, and I know what you mean. On one hand it does give people a good idea what to read next but most times the two books just don’t compare like you said. Still this one does sound good, maybe I’ll enjoy it more than Red Queen! 😀

That book sounds so good, even if the “for fans of Red Queen” kind of annoyed me. I wasn’t the biggest fan of that book, well, more especially of the second book. But this might be one of these cases when they label a book for what it’s not. This ALWAYS happens lately, I feel like everything gets compared to The Hunger Games and other popular books, to attract attention, and they end up being NOTHING like it. Anyway I am rambling ahah, great choice! 🙂

It does sound interesting, and yeah like I said even if I’m not a massive fan of Red Queen or Glass Sword (I can’t remember which I had the most issues with) I’m hoping this will be a better read for me!
Oh I know all about that! The Red Rising series was compared to The Hunger Games but the two books aren’t really anything alike. I think it’s just a way to get people to pick up the books, if they compare them to a really popular previous series you know!
Thanks Marie! 😀

Yes exactly! IT just annoys me a bit when they compare books that are NOTHING alike ahah, I needed to get that off my chest 😛 Thank you for listening Beth, as always ahah 🙂 ❤

Nah that’s all right, it’s one of my pet peeves as well along with when the covers for book change part way through the series!
That’s all right, anytime you need to rant about books you can always come to me! 😀

Good to know that, it’s always great to have someone to rant about books to 😀

It’s definitely eye-catching isn’t it?! I can’t wait for it to be released and I hope you really like it as well (although given you’re a fan of Red Queen I’m sure you will)
That’s all right, thanks for commenting! 🙂

This is going on my TBR ASAP. Like as soon as I send this comment. 🤗 What a cool cover and an equally good name to go with it. Magic and Red Queen and I was sold. Haha! 🙂

It went on my TBR list as well as soon as I saw it. The only issue is the fact that the release date is still so far away!
It’s definitely an interesting concept, here’s hoping the book itself is just as good! 🙂

Same here actually, they’re all in my head and I’ve probably forgot some of them but I know there are loads I have to get around to! 🙂

This sounds very similar to Red Queen… even the cover has similar elements and themes. D:
I hope you like it, though! Like you, I didn’t like Red Queen either and I’m not sure how I feel about this one. The “Barren” thing sounds interesting, but I think I’ll hold off until people have reviewed it and see what I think.

Yeah I got the similarities between the synopsis’s but not the covers, I may have to have a closer look at them.
I think this one could go either way for me, it could be amazing and one of my favourite books or it could be very meh. Granted I’m hoping for the first option but I do like your idea of waiting to see some of the reviews before picking it up myself! 🙂

I think it’s just the colours for me! And the focus on red/silver objects in the middle, haha.
I hope you like it! It’s better to go in with low expectations, sometimes. 😛

Yeah I see what you mean a little now too, although I do prefer the cover for this book than I do the one for Red Queen! Yeah I hope so too. 😀
