Terrible I know but never fear because as I write my answers for this tag I have Inside-Out playing in the background. I was tagged by Sammie at Bookshelves & Biros, thanks so much for the tag Sammie. I was very excited to get around to this one and finally see the movie as well.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Actually for this one it should really be the whole series. The Lunar Chronicles is by far my all-time favourite series, and going back to re-read any of the books always brings me joy. Every time I pick up Cinder and open it to the first page it’s like I’m reading it for the first time all over again, I just get sucked into the story and the world all over again.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Of all the genres I read historical fiction is the one I get around to the least, which is strange because the books I’ve read that fall under that genre always end up being favourites of mine. The Book Thief is the best of the best; the story that’s told, the way it’s written, the characters and the situation they find themselves in is all so emotional. No matter how many times I read this book I always end up in the tears long before I reach the final page.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

This book started off slow but when the plot picked up it went off the charts. There was so much happening that there were times I genuinely feared for Darrow’s life; I had no clue what was coming from one page to the next and more than a few times I thought he was finally done for. It was the same story when I read Golden Son, and even though I’ve yet to read the last I know it will be the same with Morning Star as well.

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

No spoilers for Allegiant.

I just want to say that I really enjoyed the first two books, and even most of the last one as well. However when it comes to the ending, and if you’ve read Allegiant you probably know exactly what I’m talking about, just seemed to come completely out of nowhere. I hated what happened to that character, it felt like a cheap way to end everything especially given what they all survived through the series as well.

The Death Cure by James Dashner

No spoilers for The Death Cure.

This is another situation like with the Divergent trilogy; while I did really enjoy the first two books in the series, I thought it was a unique concept with some interesting characters, the death in the last book in the last few chapters really annoyed me. It seemed to come completely out of the blue, I actually had to go back and re-read a couple of pages before to make sure I’d read it right, and that character deserved so much better.

  4. Every time I see you mention The Lunar Chronicles I remember that I NEED to read it soon! XD (Hopefully it will actually happen soon, and me not only saying that it will…)
    The Book Thief is my all time favourite book (if I had to choose one), it’s sooo beautiful but also very sad. I end up crying every time I reread it.
    I have only read The Maze Runner and I really enjoyed it! Still I have no plan in continuing with this trilogy, as I have heard that it gets worse and worse. Plus my friend already told me what happens, as she was raging while reading it – so I’m kind of glad that I don’t have to “waste” any time on it. XD

    1. OH MY GOD, YES, you seriously need to read The Lunar Chronicle. It is one of my all-time favourite series so I hope you really love, I’ll be keeping an eye out for your reviews in that case! 😀
      I can’t say The Book Thief is my favourite but it’s definitely one of my favourites, it’s so moving and yeah I find myself in tears by the end as well, every time.
      I enjoyed the first two book but then the just destroyed my enjoyment of the series. I would have been very much like your friend, ranting and raging over it!

      1. I’ll definitely be reviewing it! 😀 I hope to at least start CInder this month and it’s going to be amazing! I’m seriously exited about it, I haven’t read a sci-fi book in a really long time.

        It really is moving. It’s one of the books that really made me love reading. I think I read it for the first time when I was either 12 or 13 and I have loved every reread of it since. (That’s probably the reason I consider it my favourite.)

        It was really funny listening to her raging. She kept on ranting and sending me voice messages and I loved every second of it! 😀

      2. If you haven’t read a sci-fi book in a while then Cinder is a great one to get started with. I really do hope you love it, and I can’t wait to see your review.
        I didn’t read it until a few years back actually, and even before then it was on my to-read list for a while before I got around to it!
        Honestly I would have done the same thing, but then my friends would have killed me because of the spoilers! 😀

      3. Hahaha, she knows that I don’t really mind spoilers for anything (or nearly anything)! So she tends to tell me about spoiler-y stuff in books and movies/tv shows. XD I honestly don’t mind it at all!

  8. I love that movie.
    I haven’t read Allegiant but the bad comments about it make me want to leave it at the end of my wishlist.
    I couldn’t agree more about The Death Cure. I could not believe Dashner had killed a key character in two sentences at the end of the book like it did not matter. It added nothing and was poorly done.

    1. God it’s a brilliant movie isn’t it!
      Yeah I think because I enjoyed the other two books so much I had high hopes for how Allegiant would end the series and it just ended up being a disappointment.
      Oh I could rant for ages about that character death, and actually all the character deaths in The Death Cure. It felt like such a waste of such brilliant characters, they deserved much better!

      1. I’m not a big fan of the genre but this movie is in my top 5!
        I am watching Allegiant this week, but I am not really looking forward to it. I’m only watching because Naomi Watts is in it.
        So true! I am so mad at Dashner for rushing the end this way and making poor decisions based on bad judgement.

      2. I still haven’t seen it, I think it’s out on DVD soon right? If it’s not already. I wasn’t really blown away by the first two probably won’t bother with the next two.
        Exactly, and the first two books were so much better the last just felt like a letdown in comparison!

      3. The downside of having a hubby who loves this genre is that I’ll have to watch all the movies… Kill me now! And in French. A nightmare!
        That’s why I am so leery with series, I always dread the next book because most of the time, the author won’t manage to keep the high standards of the previous books.

        Yeah, I know that feeling, I’ve been disappointed by a few series ust because the final book hasn’t live up to my expectations! It’s a harsh lesson to learn.

  9. Great answers, and yay for you watching the movie! Did you enjoy it? I thought it was really, really good! I have Red Rising on my TBR and I can’t wait to get to it, I haven been hearing wonderful things about this series. I agree about Cinder, it was such a good book – I am almost done with Scarlet, and it took me some time to get into it, but it is good as well ! and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. Allegiant was kind of a let-down indeed :/

    1. Thanks Marie, and oh yeah I LOVED the movie, it was so emotional and moving as well and I kind of want to watch it again now!
      Oh Red Rising is a brilliant read. It starts off a little slow but once it’s get started it really kicks into high gear. The wonderful things you’ve been hearing are all true! 🙂
      Ohh, I’m glad you enjoyed Scarlet, I think there’s a fair bit of development to get through but it will be worth it by the time you get to Cress and Winter! 🙂
      Yeah Allegiant was one of those books where the finale doesn’t live up to the rest of the series you know? :/

      1. Right? I’m so glad you liked it, I thought it was a brilliant animated movie, I loved it.
        I need to try and find Red Rising soon, I’m really curious about it, and I hope I will like it just as much as you did! 🙂

        Oh I hope you love it, I really do, it’s such an amazing book; terrifying in places but definitely amazing!
        It happens with series sometimes, it’s always a shame but I guess with high expectations there are bound to be a few disappointments! 🙂

  11. This is a cute tag. Anger and disgust are the best words I’d use for Allegiant and The Death Cure. Wow, were they were giant disappointments. If I could rewrite both of them I would. And Red Rising is my favorite book of the year. I haven’t read anything that good in years.

    1. Yeah I had a lot of fun with this one 🙂
      It’s a shame because I enjoyed the other books in both series, but was just so angry and disappointed with the last books. The deaths were just wastes of such brilliant characters!
      Red Rising is amazing, but honestly I had no clue if Darrow would make it to the end unscathed! It’s part of what made it such a good book in my opinion, that you feared for the main character! 🙂

      1. I felt the same way. The endings were such disappointments. I understood the whole Tris plot at the end and why she did it, but it didn’t make sense to me. I don’t think I’ll read Roth’s new book because of it. I figured Darrow would make it, only because his death wouldn’t serve a purpose and I didn’t see the introduction of any characters that I could’ve imagined taking his place. But I was on the edge of my seat, dying to know what would happen to him.

      2. Oh yeah I do understand why Tris was killed off but after everything she survived, including the death serum, it was a gun. That’s probably what annoyed me the most, everything she survived and that was what killed her!
        I’ll probably have a look at the reviews and see what the general opinion is before picking it up, it does sound good though I’ll admit.
        Yeah towards the end I started guessing he’d survive but it was still terrifying, seeing some of the things he went through in the first book alone. It was the same with the second! 🙂

      3. Yeah, I think that’s what annoyed me, too. I never saw her death coming, at least not with a gun of all things. I felt a bit cheated. I can’t wait to read Golden Son. I’m actually surprised I didn’t open it right away but I really wanted to take my time with that series. 🙂

      4. God no, and when she made it through the death serum I started thinking she’d survive, then that hope was ripped away in the worst way possible.
        Oh Golden Son is amazing, so much better than Red Rising, but that ending though. Seriously you need to read it. I kind of need someone I can fangirl over this book with! 🙂

      5. I also thought she would live and was cheering Tris on. I was really invested in the series until the end. I loved Red Rising so much that it sounds crazy that the second and third are even better, especially when the second novel of a series usually falls apart, so I’m glad you and everyone’s who read it agrees. I have two books I’m reading right now for my book groups and then I’m finishing the series and we can fangirl all day about it. 🙂

      6. It just seemed like an anticlimic way to end the book, and the series for that matter!
        I haven’t read the third so I can’t really offer my opinion on that one but the second is amazing, honestly it blew the first one out of the water. I literally could not put it down until the end and even then I need to the third one like I needed air (which kind of makes it strange I haven’t picked up Morning Star yet!)
        Yay, but in that case I need to get on reading Morning Star, and re-reading Red Rising and Golden Son as well! I feel we’ll have a lot to fangirl about when we’ve both finished the series! 😀

  13. I can’t believe you haven’t seen this one yet! It was soooo good. And so creative, too; I just loved the premise.

    I haven’t read Allegiant yet and never will, but I think your response to that ending mirrors so many other people’s, haha. I think I’ve seen quite a few discussion posts/reviews that said exactly the same thing, i.e. it cheapened everything that has happened before.

    And I’m sorry you didn’t like The Death Cure! I have neutral feelings about that whole trilogy and think the first book was the best, but I can see why the deaths in the last one came out of the blue. Are you planning to read the companion/prequel novels?

    1. Actually I hadn’t seen it around much either until I was tagged in it, and then since. But yeah it’s a great tag, and I can say now I’ve seen it a brilliant movie as well! 🙂
      Did you read the first two in the series? It’s a shame because I really enjoyed Divergent and Insurgent but then this book let it down because of that ending. It felt like such a waste and such a let down. Yeah I’ve seen a few reviews from people with the same opinion but it’s still a shame.
      I had the same issue with The Death Cure, the deaths were such a waste of such brilliant characters. I actually have read the first prequel, The Kill Order right? I thought that was brilliant, I enjoyed it so much more than The Maze Runner trilogy. Have you read them?

      1. Nooo, I actually meant the movie! So you’ve actually seen it now? 😛

        I read Divergent and it was one of those books I LOVED as a teen but thought ‘meh’ as an adult, haha. It’s not really my thing, tbh. I actually liked The Maze Runner more – I liked the premise of these teens being experimented on (in fiction, ofc).

        I’ve skimmed the prequel but honestly can’t remember too much about it, haha. Have you seen the movies yet?

        I haven’t re-read them yet, maybe I should one day but at the moment I’ve just got too much else on my to-read list and don’t have the time for a series I know will disappoint me with the last book again! The Maze Runner was a brilliant concept, I really loved the first book. The prequel was kind of a standard dystopian book but I thought it was brilliant.
        Yeah I’ve seen both films at the moment. I liked the first one but wasn’t too sure what to think of the second :/ they’re kind of going in a different direction to the books. 😀

      3. Yeah, fair enough! “Too many books, too little time” is kind of the TBR catchphrase, haha.

        One of my friends is a huge fan of the trilogy so she really hated the direction of the movies… I’m not too fussed, though. I think it’s always kind of weird when movies deviate too much from books just because it doesn’t even feel like the same story anymore even when the characters are the same, but speaking generally, sometimes movies make the story a bit better. I’m glad at least with this one, there’s only going to be the one movie for the third book. I’ve had enough with third books being split into two movies. 😛

      4. It’s part and parcel of becoming a book blogger isn’t it, the never ending TBR list and not enough time to read any of them 😀
        Part of me does think it can be a little weird, but it takes different things for an action film to succeed than it does an action book. It’s like with Game of Thrones; George RR Martin is writing a successful fantasy series and the TV show are trying to do the same but for TV, unfortunately the two mean different things. I think you just have to take them on their own merits.
        God I know what you mean, it seemed like after Harry Potter did it with Deathly Hallows (which made sense because there was a lot in the book to get through) every YA film franchise started doing it. And for some films there was barely enough material to make one decent film let alone two!

        I knooow. Like for example even with The Hunger Games, I feel like Mockingjay could’ve been just one movie – Part 1 barely had anything in it except Katniss going around and talking to the camera. It makes me feel like they’re just money-grabs, and that’s not a pleasant feeling. :/

      6. Oh Mockingjay part one just felt like a two and a bit hour prologue for the second movie. I did think it was good don’t get me wrong, but I also feel like they could have fitted everything into one movie! It’s become a trend now, and yeah I do feel it has a little bit to do with money, after all why make one movie when you can stretch it into two and get the money for two as well!
