The BFF Book Tag

Another day, another tag.

I read a lot of books and, as well as being drawn into the stories and the fantasy worlds within the pages, I love the characters themselves. There are so many characters from my favourite books I’d love to meet, love to spend an afternoon with, love to be my BFF’s, so this was a brilliant tag to be able to take part in. The only issue was narrowing it down to one character per question.

The BFF Book Tag

I was tagged in the BFF book tag by Kirstie at Upside-Down Books. Thank you so much for the tag Kirstie; everyone else should definitely check out her original post and her blog, and if you’re not following her already then what are you waiting for?

Setting the Example:
A pair/group of book BFFs that you love

Blue and the Raven Boys
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

The relationship between Blue, Gansey, Adam and Ronan is one of my favourite aspects of this series. The four have their ups and downs, and they clash with each other more than once; Gansey and Adam over money, Gansey and Ronan over school, Gansey and Blue over privilege. However when it comes down to it the four always have each other’s backs. They are constantly drawn back to one another, drawn back to Gansey, and drawn back to their quest to find Glendower.

The Raven Cycle

Childhood Bestie:
Which book character would you have liked to grow up with?

Nix
The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig

Nix spent her childhood travelling all over the world to different time periods, having amazing adventures, and I’d have loved to be able to be a part of that. Nix is a great character and I think it would have been amazing to travel with someone who sees wonder in it all, and who’s only desire is to be able to take off on her own and explore the world at her leisure.

The Girl From Everywhere

Frenemy:
Which book character would bring out your competitive side?

Lila Bard
Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Lila is a very competitive character, and is always taking risks. She travels to Red London with Kell despite knowing it could kill her, and later she steals another competitors identity to take part in the Essen Tasch. I feel like she would definitely bring out my competitive side every now and again, especially if it meant I got to travel along to Red London as well.

Shades of Magic

Fashion Guru:
Who would be the bestie whose closet you’d want to raid or you would want to go on a shopping spree with?

Iko
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Throughout the whole series Iko was always the most fashion and appearance conscious of the Rampion crew so I imagine she’d be the best person to go on a shopping spree with, or the best choice for raiding a bestie’s closet. Iko would have the most gorgeous clothes as well as a lot of knowledge of current fashion trends so of course she would know what would work with different body types and skin tones.

The Lunar Chronicles

The Bad Influence:
Which character would you want to commit a small act of rebellion with?

Kaz Brekker
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I feel it would definitely end up being a big act of rebellion. Kaz has the silver tongue of a con-man and could probably get anyone to do anything he wanted, I doubt I’d be an exception. Plus Kaz would be the one with the plan and definitely the person you’d want on your side if you were going to try and pull off any kind of crime, big or small.

Six of Crows Series

Blood Brothers:
Which character would you want to be your surrogate big brother/sister?

Kenji Kishimoto
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Kenji was my favourite character in the Shatter Me series, and I imagine he’d be a great surrogate big brother. He would always have a joke or light-hearted remark ready but at the same time he’d know when to be serious; know when it was time to stop the jokes, stop messing around and start acting. Also there are definitely times when his no-nonsense pep talks would be much appreciated.

Shatter Me Series

Mother Hen:
Which character would you want to be by your side when you’re having a bad day to cheer you up?

Finn O’Sullivan
Bone Gap by Laura Ruby

Finn is a character who never gives up. During Bone Gap, even when everyone else has accepted Roza is gone, Finn hasn’t and he is determined to find her and bring her home. Finn is stubborn and he doesn’t give up on the people he loves even when they’ve given up on him or on themselves. I think he’d be the best person to have at my side if I ever needed cheering up.

Bone Gap

The Counsellor:
Which character would you go to for relationship advice or confide a secret to?

Nehemia Ytger
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

She is the one person Celaena always turns to for help and advice and Nehemia always knows what to say, and she seems wiser than her years as well. Yes Nehemia has her own secrets, quite a few of them, but she keeps Celaena’s and helps her friend whenever she needs it. If I could speak to Nehemia I would ask her for advice on everything, not just relationship issues.

Throne of Glass

More Than Friends:
Who would be your book boyfriend/girlfriend?

Archer
Immortal Descendants by April White

I love Archer, but even more I love his relationship with Saira. He is dedicated, loyal, and even when he wants to protect Saira he knows when she needs to space to walk her own path, accepting that she is more than capable of protecting herself. The two work very well together and I love their relationship because, in spite of their troubles, they actually talk to one another about them and come out the other side even stronger; a rarity in YA fiction.

Archer would be my ultimate book boyfriend but I wouldn’t want to fight Saira for him.

  1. Thank you so much for the tag! This looks fun! I really enjoyed reading your answers, and your choices are great! I haven’t read any of these unfortunately, but The Girl from Everywhere and A Darker Shade of Magic are pretty high on my TBR 🙂 Can’t wait to read them!

    1. That’s all right 😀 I hope you have fun with this tag and I’m glad you enjoyed my answers too.
Ahh that’s a shame but both The Girl From Everywhere and the Shades of Magic series are favourites of mine, and brilliant books, so I really hope you enjoy them! 🙂

    1. Thanks Deanna! 😀
Yeah The Raven Cycle characters were an obvious choice for me for this tag, the same with Kaz as well actually. If I was going to commit a crime I’d definitely want him on my side rather than working against me. 😀
And that’s all right ❤ I hope you have a lot of fun with this tag!

  2. Yesss at The Raven Cycle series. That is one of the most magical friendships ever and I so wish I could be part of it! I love everything about it so much. I’m so excited to start reading the Shades of Magic series! Lila sounds like an amazing character.

    1. I just had to include Blue and the Raven Boys in this tag, there was no other choice for me! 😀 Definitely one of the most magical friendships I’ve ever read as well.
Ohh the Shades of Magic series is amazing; I’m sure you’ll love it, and Lila too. Have you read any of V.E. Schwab’s other books? I’ve loved everything that she’s released but the Shades of Magic book are my favourite by far! 😀

Ohh you're in for a real treat when you carry on with the series. It honestly gets so much better with each book, in terms of the story and the characters! 😀
Also yes, I think we have both already fangirled extensively over Kenji ❤ but he's so amazing. I'd love to have someone like him in real life! 🙂

  3. I just started The Raven Boys tonight. I’m only a few pages in but everyone is telling me how great the characters are. Glad to see you liked them, too. I bought Shatter Me. That’s on my TBR along with Six of Crows. I have so much to read. 😂

    1. Ohh, you’re in for a real treat if you’ve just started the series then. The characters are amazing and they only get better the further into the series you get. I think you’re going to love them all! 😀
I hope you love Shatter Me, which is another series that I think gets better the further through you get, as well and Six of Crows, which is just plain amazing from the beginning!
I know that feeling, my TBR list just gets longer and longer! 😀

      1. So far, The Raven Boys is a lot of telling instead of showing, but I’m really interested in how Blue is going to find a way around killing Gansey. Shatter Me will probably be next on my list after I finish a few of the series I haven’t finished, like Red Rising, Splintered, and Lux.

      2. I’m trying to remember if there’s more showing than telling in the next few books but I can’t say for sure. Either way it’s one of my favourite series so I hope you love it as well 😀 there are a lot of interesting things that happen in the next three books!
Ohh I need to finish the Red Rising series, soon as well! And I loved the Splintered and Lux series so hopefully you’ll enjoy the ending to those as well, and then onto Shatter Me afterwards! 😀

  4. Thanks for tagging me!
Loved your answers. I would so go for Iko as my shopping buddy, she’s just so honest about everything.

I would break all the crimes with Kaz because he is my bae ❤

Nehemia *sad face* she's just so wonderful. I would be friends with her in an instant!!

    1. That’s all right, I hope you have fun with this tag, I definitely did 😀
Yes Iko was the first character I thought of for this tag because she would be the perfect character to go to for shopping advice. I need an Iko in my life! And you’d definitely want Kaz on your side rather than working against you wouldn’t you? 😀
I know, I was gutted by what happened to Nehemia in the second book. But she’d be the perfect friend I think, supportive but straight talking when that’s what you needed!

  5. Great answers, Beth! I really need to get on that Cinder train. Everyone’s talking about them and I’m just like, yup, don’t know one thing about it.

I’m not a fan of ToG but would LOVE to be friends with Nehemia – I think she was one of the best female characters of that series, haha. She’s definitely very mentor-like and wise, and she doesn’t play games and lays it out to you (well, Celaena) like it is.

    1. Thanks Reg! 😀
And yes you really really need to jump on the Cinder train. The Lunar Chronicles is my all-time favourite series so I will recommend it to literally everyone who hasn’t picked it up already! 🙂
Nehemia was definitely one of my favourite characters too (I was so annoyed by what happened to her character in the second book). She’d be the perfect person to go to for advice just because she’s so straight talking and wise! 😀

      1. I’ll have to see if my library has a copy, flick through the first few pages, and see if I really want to read it. Thanks for the rec, Beth. 🙂

I heard that Maas does quite a lot of character changing, so it doesn’t surprise me that her characters don’t stay… consistent. Then again, real people do go through changes (forwards and backwards) so in a way you could also argue that her characters are realistic that way. 😛

      2. It was released a while ago now so hopefully your library will have at least one copy on hand 🙂 I really do hope you enjoy the book!
Oh yeah her characters do go through quite a lot of changes but that’s one of the things I like about her books. Like you said real people go through changes and the way Maas writes her characters they don’t feel like changes that happen out of the blue for no reason, but more of a natural progression as they learn more and grow older.

  6. I totally agree with you on committing an act of rebellion with Kaz Brekker! I basically just finished Six of Crows (like yesterday) and absolutely loved it! Plus Kaz is definitely my favourite character. And, as you said, he always has a plan so I feel that whatever plan you decided to do it would go well! 🙂

    1. Yes he is definitely someone you would want on your team rather than working against you right? Also what did you think of Six of Crows??? I really loved it, of all of Leigh Bardugo’s books it’s definitely my favourite.
Kaz was my favourite character as well, I loved how well written his backstory was but also his character development within the events of book. Even when his plan went wrong he still had a back-up and still managed to get his team out in one piece. I can’t wait for the sequel, I think it’s going to be epic! 😀

      1. Yes, I would honestly prefer him to be on my side! (Otherwise I’m most likely doomed.) I think Six of Crows might be my favourite book that I have read this year! ❤ It was simply wonderful!
I agree, all of Leigh Bardugo's books are amazing and I can't wait to see what she will come out with in the future!
The sequel is going to be amazing! I can't wait to see how the things that happened at the end of this book will resolve. Or rather, how Kaz is going to deal with the person who "betrayed" him! I just can't wait to see what direction the story will go in! 😀

      2. I’m not exactly a criminal mastermind so I’d need someone who is to plan everything! 😀
It was one of my favourite when I read it for the first time last year, I definitely think Crooked Kingdom will be on my favourites list this year though 😀
