Liebster Award

I am still very behind on my tags and awards (I’m going to have to start posting more of them each week to start making a dent in the queue I’ve got building up) so while I do have more than 200 followers now at the time I was nominated for this award I had less.

I was nominated for the Liebster Award by Heather at The Sassy Book Geek and Gracie at Gracie FM. Thank you both so much for the nomination, I’m only sorry it took me this long to get around to posting my response to both your questions. If you haven’t visited either of their blogs then I would highly recommend it, they are both amazing people who have some wonderful posts you should seriously consider checking out.

The Liebster Award

The Rules:

  • Acknowledge the blog that nominated you and display the award.
  • Answer 11 question that the blog gives you.
  • Give 11 random facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 5-11 blogs you think are deserving of the award that have less than 200 followers.
  • Let the blogs know you have nominated them.
  • Give them 11 questions to answer.

Heather’s Questions

  1. Who is your favourite super hero and why?

I am a Marvel fan over DC, and honestly I’m not sure why, but my favourite superhero is Captain America. Ever since I saw The Avengers (which I watched before Captain America: The First Avenger for some reason) Captain America has been my favourite and I’m 50% sure it’s simply because Chris Evans plays him.

  1. What is your favourite fictional world, besides Hogwarts? (Sorry but that’s probably a majority of people’s answers and I want you to think outside the box, I know I’m evil)

You know I don’t think my first pick would even be Hogwarts. It would actually be Wonderland. Alice in Wonderland is one of the first books I can remember reading and one of my first favourite books so Wonderland wins hands down when it comes to my favourite fictional world.

  1. What’s your favourite book that got turned into a movie/TV series?

My favourite book turned into a movie has got to be The Book Thief, if I thought the book tore me apart it was nothing compared to seeing it on the big screen.

  1. What is your favourite sea creature?

Manta rays. I actually went swimming with them last year while in Cancun, it was such a great experience.

  1. Would you rather rid the world of “Fifty Shades of Gray” or “Twilight”?

Fifty Shades of Grey. I didn’t even need to think about that one for too long.

  1. Tom Hiddleston or Chris Evans?

Chris Evans. Like before I didn’t even need to think on that one for long.

  1. What is your favourite kind of soda? If you don’t drink soda then what is your favourite drink?

Pepsi Max. I drink so much that my friend’s actually said more than once if she cut me I’d probably bleed fizzy drinks.

  1. What is your favourite snack/food that didn’t originate in your country?

Chimney cakes (Kürtőskalács if you’re a local) which I became addicted to while in Prague a couple of years ago. They were seriously yummy and honestly I’d travel back to Prague just to get more of them.

  1. Who is your favourite actor and your favourite actress?

My favourite actor would have to be Andy Samberg just because he is hilarious and amazing in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and everything else I’ve seen him in for that matter. My favourite actress is Jennifer Lawrence because she’s an amazing actress who is getting some great roles, and she just seems like the kind of person everyone wants to be best friends with.

  1. Are you a dog person or a cat person?

Definitely a dog person. I grew up with a dog in the house and recently we got another one, a retired racing greyhound named Tommy, he’s so adorable but really lazy so he fits in well with the rest of the family.

Tommy

  1. What is your favourite movie/TV show theme song?

At the moment This is the Hunt by Ruelle from the Shadowhunters TV show. I’ve been listening to all her songs on repeat for the past couple of days because they’re all seriously amazing.

Gracie’s Questions

  1. Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

Cromer, Norfolk. It was the first place I went on holiday with my family when I was four, and we went back every year up until I was in my twenties. Honestly some of my happiest memories are there and it’s a place I always want to go back to just to relive the holidays we had when I were younger. I’m hoping to convince my sister to travel up there again one day soon.

  1. What subject do you wish you knew more about?

History. I love reading time travel books, and I love going to museums and national heritage sites. I wish it was a subject I’d decided to carry on when I took my GCSE’s, I think I’d really have enjoyed actually learning more about what life was like back then.

  1. Where is your favourite spot to read?

My room. If it’s a cold day and I want to be cosy I’ll lie in bed with a book, a hot drink and some snacks and waste an afternoon reading something from my to-read list. Occasionally I’ll sit in my chair surrounded by pillows with my Kindle and my iPod on shuffle. Unfortunately most of my reading happens on the train on my daily commute to work.

  1. What fictional character do you want to be more like?

Characters like Hermione from Harry Potter, Penelope from Carry On and Iolanthe from The Elemental Trilogy. Characters who are intelligent (which I like to think I am) but are capable and confident in themselves and their intelligence (which is something I really need to work on).

  1. What is your favourite take away food?

If I can only pick one then Chinese, if I get to pick two then Indian would be a really close second.

  1. Who is your ultimate OTP? (You can only pick one!)

Westley and Buttercup from The Princess Bride. If I can only pick one couple then they are definitely my ultimate ultimate OTP.

  1. What is the one thing you cannot leave the house without?

Definitely my iPod. I can, and have, left my Kindle at home and had nothing to read on the train to work which didn’t bother me as much as you’d think. I always double, triple, quadruple check I have my iPod with me because I can’t stand even a short journey without it.

  1. What is your favourite Spotify playlist to work/read/blog to? (Leave a link!)

I don’t actually use Spotify or 8tracks, or even create any playlists on my iTunes. However I did The Playlist Shuffle Tag a little while ago which should give you a pretty good idea of what my music tastes are and what I listen to while I read and blog.

  1. If you could go to any fictional world where would you go and why?

Same answer as for Heather’s (kind of related) question, definitely Wonderland. Yes it seems like a crazy place but it’s somewhere I’d love to be able to see and experience for myself. It’s still one of my favourite books so being able to live it would be an amazing experience.

Hogwarts is a close second though. I’d love to be able to attend Hogwarts school, and go to Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. I think the closest I’ll ever get to it is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (which I really want to go to one day).

  1. What book would you recommend to someone who wants to start getting into reading?

Honestly it depends on the genre but as fantasy is my go to I’ll stick with that one.

I would definitely recommend The Elemental Trilogy by Sherry Thomas; it’s a brilliant series (one of my favourites) and it’s full of magic, danger, espionage and cunning. It’s got a brilliant setting, two great main characters and an amazing romance story as well. I think it’s one of the best series to start off with if you’re new to the fantasy genre and it’s not a heavy trilogy either unlike some fantasy books out there.

The Elemental Trilogy

  1. What is your favourite drink to settle down to read with?

Green tea. I drink loads of the fruit flavoured ones and my favourite is the Twinnings Apple and Pear Green Tea.

Once again I feel as if I have run out of interesting and random facts about myself; so instead, for this award, I going with eleven of my favourites.

Favourite TV Show: Honestly I couldn’t narrow this down to just one so I’m going with my top three which are; Supernatural, iZombie and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Favourite Book: Once again I couldn’t pick just one so I’m going with a favourite from each genre. Contemporary is Jandy Nelson, historical is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, paranormal is Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, and fantasy is A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab.

    1. Thanks, I think he’s the most adorable dog in the whole world! ❤️
And I’m glad you loved my answers as well 🙂 swimming with manta rays was such an amazing experience, I’d love to be able to do it again some day! 😀

  1. I’m so happy you got round to doing this! I loved reading your answers to my questions and Heather’s ☺️ I hope you enjoyed doing it! I loved your little favourite’s section as well instead of putting 11 facts, I may have to steal that from you when I get stuck next time 😉

    1. Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed reading my answers (and my answers to Heather’s questions as well!) I definitely enjoyed this tag.
Hah I feel like I’m always running out of facts so anything to get around recycling old facts about myself 🙂

      1. Same, that’s always the part that takes me forever to do, and I always forget what I’ve put in past tags as well, so I’ll definitely have to try this one out!

  2. This is such a fun award, thank you so much for nominating me! Hopefully I’ll be able to think of 11 facts about myself haha
Your dog is adorable! And oh yeah I’d definitely get rid of fifty shades of grey too. Haven’t read it, but just hearing about it makes me cringe. Oh green tea is awesome! There’s only one tea I love more than that, black tea. I heard that green tea is also very good for your teeth, because it prevents cavity if you drink it without sugar. So that’s awesome! 😀

    1. That’s all right ❤️ God I know what you mean I always struggle with facts for myself, but I can normally think of some when I put my mind to it 🙂
Aww thanks, I think he the cutest dog ever, though I may be a little biased. I haven’t read 50 Shades either but my friend told me a little about it and I was just like, no thanks, it’s one book I doubt I’ll ever pick up.
I’ve never tried black tea but I am addicted to green tea, I drink so much of it, and I never put sugar in any of my drinks so that’s a plus too 😀 (I tried sugar in my coffee once and I thought it was disgusting, a waste of good coffee because I chucked it all away!)

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Hopefully it’ll turn out for me like that too, it would be too bad to be stuck at the last two facts or so. 😂
Oh you can be sure, I’d be a little biased too with such a cute dog! ❤
50 shades of no for the both of us then 😂
I bet you’ll love black tea if you get around to trying it! That’s definitely a big plus 😀 I always put a little sugar in, except for green tea, that one’s great on it’s own.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I’m sure it will be, once you start thinking of facts you’ll probably come up with more than you would have thought! 🙂
I think all dogs are adorable ❤️
I’ll definitely have to give black tea a try then. I grew up without putting any sugar in any of my drinks so now I just can’t have sugar without it tasting horrible! Guess it’s healthier in the long run! 🙂

  3. You went swimming with manta rays? I’m so so jealous! 😀 That’s amazing Beth! I don’t think you’ll ever run out of facts to tell us. Everything you have to say is so interesting.
The Princess Bride is one of my favourite movies! Can definitely see they’re your OTP.
    Thanks for the nomination! 🙂

    1. I certainly hope I don’t run out of facts, I’ll try my best not to, even if it means I need to pick up more hobbies 😀 but yeah swimming with manta rays was amazing, I’d love to be able to do it again and hopefully one day I’ll be able to 🙂
Same here actually, talking about it in this tag made me want to watch it again so I think that’s what I’m gonna do tonight 🙂
      And that’s all right ❤️

    1. Thanks Lauren! I think Wonderland would be my dream travel destination, if only there was a way to visit worlds within books, how amazing would that be?!
Aww, and thanks, I think Tommy is the cutest dog in the world but I guess everyone thinks that about their own pets!

      1. Neither would I! It would take my wanderlust to the next level! 😀
Well I do think all dogs are amazing, so it’s not extreme to say that every dog is the most gorgeous dog in the world to me 🙂

    1. I couldn’t list my favourite books and not include Jandy Nelson, as it stands I can’t even narrow it down to one of hers as my favourite!
I think Wonderland is a little (a lot) crazy but for me I think that’s part of the charm, and I definitely think it is awesome. I’d love to go just to meet all the characters, have a tea party with the Mad Hatter and play croquet with the Queen of Hearts!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Splintered is a slightly darker side to Wonderland I think. When I was little reading the original book some aspects of Wonderland really creeped me out but for the most part I was fascinated by the world, that’s kinda carried on up until now 😀

        Liked by 1 person

  4. Oh my would love to get lost in Wonderland with you and have some tea with the Mad Hatter! And yes, I haven’t finished reading The Book Thief but I already saw the movie and it was so good and heartbreaking.

Thank for the tag, though I’ve already done this Award but I might do it again because of your questions. 💙😄

    1. Same here. I’d even love to see the Queen of Hearts, and pretty much every other character in Wonderland! The movie is amazing wasn’t it, I think the book is a little better though so I hope you love it when you finish it. I was in tears by the end of the book (and the film as well come to think of it, definitely heartbreaking!)
That’s all right, and at least it’s different questions, there’s no rush to do this tag so you can space the two out a little if you need to 😀

  5. You swam with manta rays? So jealous!

Hey, my brother adopted a retired racing greyhound named Tommy too. Your Tommy looks like an absolute sweetheart. 🙂

I’ll have to check out the Elemental Trilogy; it looks neat!

    Thanks for the tag! 😀

    1. It was such an amazing experience, I’d definitely do it again if I had the chance! And hopefully one day I will 😀
That’s a strange coincidence, does your brother’s Tommy like like mine? That’d make it even stranger. He is a sweetheart but he gets into trouble a fair bit, we all still love him though 🙂
It’s a brilliant series so I really hope you love it, and that’s all right 😀

      Liked by 1 person

      1. God that must be nice, if we leave our Tommy alone for too long he’s getting into trouble; ripping up papers and magazines left lying around, going through the bins and making a huge mess, stealing our food from the counters! Definitely spunkier!

        Liked by 1 person

    1. That’s all right, and thanks ❤️ I personally think he’s the most adorable dog in the world but I think everyone thinks that about their own pet.
Aww, a beagle sounds adorable, you’ll have to post some pictures of him/her or something 😀

  6. Ah, the Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey dilemma… I think if you got rid of Twilight, Fifty Shades might not exist as it was originally a fanfiction. In place though there could be something even worse. 😛

And yes for Wesley and Buttercup! The Princess Bride was very good.

Also haven’t listened to Imagine Dragons’ new songs just yet – I gotta get on that!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. For me, not much of a dilemma, Twilight was actually the book that really kick started my reading obsessions so I kind of wonder what would have happened if it had never been released, would I be blogging now if I hadn’t read Twilight? Probably, but still 😀
Also I think even without Twilight 50Shades would have still been released eventually, maybe just inspired by another series in its place!
God I LOVE Imagine Dragons latest album, even more than their first I think, I listened to it on repeat for like a couple of weeks after it was released 😀

      1. Twilight was probably what propelled YA fiction into popular culture, I think – that and maybe THG? But Twilight came first, if my memory serves right. YA has been around for ages but it wasn’t until these books that people started making movies for them, I think. Even The Giver, which was published aaaages ago and is a classic dystopian YA, now has a movie.

You’re probably right about 50 Shades. I do wonder though how different it’d be because the characters are almost literally Bella and Edward, just named differently. In a way, I’m also kind of glad that it exists because it gives voice (although not representative voice) to the BDSM community and allows them the opportunity to speak up (even if against it).

Oops, I totally went on a tangent there! I’ll be listening to Imagine Dragons tomorrow at work, I hope I like the album as much as you have. 🙂

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Honestly I can’t remember but I did read Twilight way before THG, like I think a good few years before. I can’t remember what YA fiction was like before Twilight either but when it was released I was at that age where I was started to get into YA books so I probably wouldn’t have picked any up before then anyways. For me Twilight is just always going to be that book which got me into reading, so in a way I can’t really say I wanna get rid of it completely 😀
God can you imagine if instead of Edward and Bella the 50 Shades characters were based off of say Katniss and Peeta from THG, or Tris and Four from Divergent, how different would that story be then!I agree it definitely gives voice to the BDSM community but (and to listen to one of my friends rant about it a little) it’s not a healthy or accurate voice.
Yes! I really really hope you love the album! 😀

      3. Katniss and Peeta as vampires would be SO WEIRD. But I’m so curious. I wonder if anyone has written a retelling of Twilight with THG characters or vice versa… I mean, it’s not too far-fetched, right?

Yeah, definitely not a healthy/accurate voice, but I do wonder if it has helped the community become more (socially) acceptable – I mean, it was kind of seen as very kinky or even a taboo, and while it is kinky, I wonder if Fifty Shades has given it a bit more focus in society and makes it seem more desirable. I’m not sure if I’m making sense, haha.

        Liked by 1 person

      4. God I can’t even begin to imagine Katniss and Peeta as Bella and Edward re-writes, it makes my head hurt a little! I reckon there’s gotta be a few retellings, there has to be at least one where Edward and Bella take part in THG.
No I think it makes perfect sense, and I get what you mean 50 Shades has kind of shone a light on the community and made it something people are talking about. It’s just worrying when people interested in BDSM think 50 Shades is an accurate portrayal of the community.
