Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten of My Most Recent Five Star Reads.
I’ve already read so many amazing books this year, I even have two that are contending for my top read of 2016. Most of them are completely new series and/or authors whom I only discovered this year since starting my blog. I’ve added a lot of books to my to-read list since joining WordPress and some of my favourite series I only picked up because of the reviews I saw on various blogs I follow.
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
Check out my review here.
I adored Alexandra Bracken’s Darkest Minds series, and if anything Passenger was so much better. I love time travel books, anything with even a hint of time travel goes straight on my to-read list, and Passenger was one of the best I’ve read. I enjoyed everything from the story and the characters to the concept behind the time travel. This book is one of the contenders for my top read of 2016.
Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater
Check out my review here.
While I had seen this series around in bookstores it was only since I started my blog that I actually put it on my to-read list; there were so many amazing reviews for The Raven Cycle that I had to see what all the fuss was about. The first book was a little slow to start but after that it kept getting better and better with each instalment; I have high expectations for the fourth book when it’s finally released.
Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton
Check out my review here.
This was easily one of my most anticipated releases for 2016. The blurb sounded amazing and I loved the idea behind the world it was set in as well. Reading the book I wasn’t disappointed; while the story does start off a little slow the world building was masterfully done and there were twists and turns in the plot which I didn’t see coming.
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
Check out my review here.
I saw some amazing reviews for this book on a few blogs I follow and I had to put it on my to-read list. While this isn’t the kind of genre I normally read All the Light We Cannot See more than lived up to all the amazing reviews it had, and I don’t think anything I can say can fully give justice to it. I was moved by the story Doerr told and devastated by the ending.
Stars Above by Marissa Meyer
Check out my review here.
Marissa Meyer is one of my all-time favourite authors, and The Lunar Chronicles is my favourite series, so when I saw Stars Above was being released it became one of my most-anticipated releases for 2016. While I had read some of the short stories previously I enjoyed reading them all again, and of course my favourite of the lot had to be Something Old, Something New.
The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry
Check out my review here.
I wasn’t too sure about this book at first; while the cover was gorgeous the blurb didn’t really tell me much about what the story was about. Still I put it on my to-read list and when it was released I picked it up. This book surprised me; I fell in love with the story, the characters and their romance, the Native American stories that were represented, and course the beautiful lyrical writing on each and every page.
The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig
Check out my review here.
Another time travel book, there are so many being released this year that I’ve heard of and The Girl From Everywhere is another favourite of mine. It has possibly the best time travel concept I have read alongside pirates, thieves, and myths and legends woven seamlessly together with reality. The story itself was brilliant and I’m very excited to see where the series goes with the next book.
A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
Check out my review here.
I have loved every book V.E. Schwab has released and I really enjoyed the first book in the Shades of Magic series. A Gathering of Shadows was definitely the best of the best though, even better than A Darker Shade of Magic, I couldn’t put it down and when I got to the last page I couldn’t believe how it ended. I really need the next book in this series.
The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski
Check out my review here.
I’ve had this series on my to-read list for a while now but it was only since I started my blog that I actually moved it up my to-read list. I’d heard so many amazing things about this series and with the third book soon-to-be released it seemed like a perfect time to start The Winner’s Trilogy. I enjoyed the first book but the second and third were so much better. The whole series was amazing and the ending was perfect.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Check out my review here.
Sarah J. Maas’s books have been on my to-read list for ages now, since before Throne of Glass was even released. I finally got around to them, started with A Court of Thorns and Roses and to say I loved this book feels like a massive understatement. I didn’t want it to end but at the same time I couldn’t read it fast enough; I can’t wait for the second book to be released, I already have it pre-ordered.
So what do you think? Did you take part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, if so let me know what some of your most recent five-star reads are.
I LOVE The Lunar Chronicles too! I still have to read Stars Above though…

Ahh, you gave such high praise for Passenger! That book was on my February TBR but I kind of dropped it since I felt myself losing interest, despite having a copy. You might have just changed my mind. ❤
Also I really need to get on The Winner's trilogy bandwagon, everyone seems to love it!

Oh yay! There are some mixed reviews for Passenger but personally I loved it (I’m a massive fan of time travel books in general and Passenger was definitely one of the best I’d read in a while) and I really hope you do as well!

Completely agree with you about All The Light We Cannot See, it isn’t the kind of book I normally read but I thought it was so beautiful, I couldn’t put it down until the end!

SOOOO MANY BOOKS ON THIS LIST THAT ARE ON MY TBR! I NEED THEM ALL!
Even though Rebel of the Sands wasn’t AMAZING for me I’m glad that so many people are liking it! I think I’m just going to suck it up and buy A Court of Thorns and Roses. I’ve read a lot of conflicting things but I guess I need to experience it myself.

Well all the books I picked for this week are my favourites so I would highly recommend all of them 😀 I hope you’ll love them just as much!
Yeah I’ve seen mixed reviews for Rebel of the Sands, I guess it’s one of those books you either like or don’t. Oh my god yes you should definitely read ACoTaR. It was the first book I read by Sarah J. Maas and I thought it was AMAZING! If you like the Throne of Glass series I think you’ll really like ACoTaR as well!

Yep, hopefully!
Yep probably. I think it would of been better as a standalone.
Does the sequel come out in May? I’ll probably read ACOTAR before then 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
I honestly thought it was a standalone until the end! I am actually interested in the second one, I think after the way the first one ended the second will start a lot quicker!
Yep, beginning of May I think, so you’ve got plenty of time to read ACoTaR!

Me too! Which is why I thought it could of been wrapped up as one novel. I hope the book overall is a lot quicker and has more merciless action.
Yes that’s plenty of time!

I think after the way Rebel of the Sands ended the second has to have a quicker plot, and part of me thinks the reason the first one was so slow was because of the world building that went into it, that won’t need to be repeated again 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Definitely! I think I have higher expectations for the second book then I had for the first book.

So many awesome books on your list, these are ones I have either loved myself or am desperate to read. I LOVED ACOTAR so much and I am counting down the days to A Court of Mist and Fury, can’t wait. Rebel of the Sands made my list too, that book was sooooo good. I am definitely going to be adding some of these to my already endless TBR, so thanks for the awesome recommendations!!! 🙂 Here’s my most recent five star reads, if you want to check them out 🙂

I felt the same when I read your weeks picks for TTT, but at least you know they’re probably gonna be good 😀 seriously I really hope you love them. Everything on this list is a favourite of mine so I hope they more than live up to expectations for you.
Ohh, they’re both amazing series to start with, both books start off kind of slow but definitely stick with them because they get so much better as the series goes on. I cannot wait for The Raven King to be released and I pretty much binge read the whole of The Winners Trilogy! It was amazing!
