Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Really Love and Feel I Need to Re-Read Soon

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is Top Ten Books I Really Love and Feel I Need to Re-Read Soon.

I read a lot of books each year, and while there are some books I always re-read at least once a year there are others which I haven’t picked up in ages. Looking through my bookshelves and my Goodreads read list I discovered a lot of series which I loved the first time I read them but which I haven’t picked up since. These are probably my top ten favourite series that I haven’t read in over a year which are now high on my re-reads list.

Top Ten Tuesday #16

Splintered by A.G. Howard

This is my ultimate favourite Alice in Wonderland re-telling. Although Ensnared was only released at the beginning of last year I need to go back and re-read the whole trilogy again.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

This is one of my all-time favourite series; it made me believe in magic, it made me want to visit Prague. Each book just seemed to get better and better and the ending was perfect.

Angelfall by Susan Ee

I wasn’t a massive fan of the last book but I loved the first two and overall I enjoyed the whole trilogy. Like Splintered and Daughter of Smoke and Bone I need to go back and re-read all three books.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

I haven’t picked these books up since I read the last one after it was released, but I remember really enjoying the story and the characters. This is a brilliant trilogy and I’m excited to go back and re-read it soon.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray

I read this book for the first time in high school, and it was the first time I was really hooked on a series. I can clearly remember desperately waiting for the last book in the series. I can’t remember any exact details on what happened though so a re-read is definitely needed.

Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder

I love Maria V. Snyder and Inside Out was one of the first sci-fi books I ever read. I really enjoyed the series, though it wasn’t my favourite of her books.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

I am way behind on Clare’s Shadowhunter books, and with Lady Midnight having been released I really should go back and re-read the whole series; both The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices books.

Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier

I think this was probably the first time travel series I’d ever read, well it’s definitely the first I can remember reading. I adore these books and the movies were brilliant as well. I’d like to re-read the series before the third movie comes out in Summer.

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

I really enjoyed this series the first time I read it. The plot was brilliant but it was the characters I loved the most. The journey Ruby makes in this series alone was so brilliantly developed, and her relationships with all the other characters were wonderful to read.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

Of course Harry Potter had to be one this weeks’ list.

So what do you think? Did you take part in this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, if so let me know what some of your favourite books you’d like to re-read are, or your favourite books you just haven’t spoken about in a while are.

  1. I adored Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier as well. Though it’s been a few years since I read it (I read them in German, so as soon as the third one was published I read the trilogy). I should probably reread them some time as well! XD Though I’m a bit nervous to do so, as I don’t think I’ll enjoy it as much as I did when I first read them.

    1. I loved the whole Ruby Red trilogy, I only discovered them recently (within the last two years recently) but by the time I did all three books were out in English and I could read them pretty much one after the other πŸ˜€ that’s kind of the best thing about discovering books late, no wait for the sequels!
Yeah, there are some books like that, there are books you enjoy more the second time you read them though. For me I think Ruby Red will be a series I enjoy just as much reading it the second time as I did the first!

      1. Yeah, waiting for sequels is the worst. That’s true, I can think of quiet a few books that I enjoyed more once I reread them. I’m really unsure about Ruby Red trilogy though, I might reread it or I might not, we shall see! XD Well, I hope you have fun rereading it and that you enjoy it as much as you did! πŸ˜€

      2. I have literally no patience when it comes to waiting for sequels for books I like! I need them pretty much instantly. One series I enjoyed more was the Shades of Magic book by V.E. Schwab, that was so much better the second time I read it, but I think the Ruby Red trilogy may just be one I enjoy the same amount as the first time πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks! I guess if you were going to pick only one to have read it would have to be Harry Potter wouldn’t it πŸ˜€
But honestly all the books I featured are favourites of mine so if your going to get some of them I would highly recommend any on my list for this week πŸ™‚

  2. This is such a great list, and, as always, you’re making me discover wonderful books I’m going to want to read soon, ahah. We already talked about Splintered of course, but I do want to try out Under the never sky, it’s been on my TBR forever, I’m so glad to hear you liked that one! And TMI, I only read City of Bones YEARS ago, but I do want to get back into it… or TID ? I don’t know, ahah πŸ˜›

    1. Thanks Marie πŸ™‚ and I’m glad I’m helping you discover new books to read as well! When you read them we can Fangirl over them together πŸ˜€
Obviously Splintered, but yes I’d definitely recommend Under the Never Sky, it’s a really good series, one I will be re-reading soon! I really need to catch up on TMI and TID. I got a copy of Lady Midnight the other day, because I’m weak when it comes to buying new books, and I can’t read it until I’ve caught up in the other Shadowhunter books. I have a lot to get through πŸ™‚

      1. You’re welcome! I’m definitely upgrading my TBR thanks to you πŸ™‚
I need to add it to my TBR then, really, because it sounds quite good, I haven’t heard a lot about it, maybe because it’s a bit outdated -everything moves SO fast in the bookish world!, – but I’m excited to read it.
Oh yes, I think that’s what scares me, actually, with that series, how many books there are to get through, haha!

      2. Yay! I’m doing the same since I started following you, there are so many books you’ve featured that I just have to pick up now πŸ˜€
Yeah it did come out a while ago but it’s still really good, I know what you mean about things moving so fast in the bookish world, there are some book/series I feel so behind on!
There there’s so many, nine to read before I can start Lady Midnight, and that’s not even including the novellas!

      3. There are always SO many books, that, actually, I don’t know where to start! I want to read “old” books, but at the same time some new ones are just there waiting for me, too… such a struggle!
NINE, wow! That’s a lot indeed! Oh, I never read any novellas of any series *goes hide in shame*. I guess it’s because they mostly are released as ebooks, and I recently got an ereader, so… and I never know if those are worth it…

      4. I have loads on my to-read list as well and honestly I just start with whatever I’m in the mood to read, and then if I really like one book I will binge read either everything in that series or everything the author has released so far!
Yeah, there’s a lot! And it’s not even including the novellas which I feel I should read just because if I’m reading all nine books it doesn’t make sense to not read the novellas. Ohh I love my e-reader, it literally goes everywhere with me, even when I know I probably won’t need it πŸ™‚
I think with novellas it depends on the series, some I would highly recommend but there are others that just aren’t worth it!

      5. Oh that’s so great, I almost never do that, because I feel guilty putting aside some of the books I bought to get new ones ahah :p
Well, if I ever want to get into novellas, I’ll ask you to know which ones are worth it, or not. It’s just that, they’re SO short -I know, that’s the point, but they will be read in one hour or so, so…I don’t know, I want it to be worth it, I guess πŸ˜›

      6. Part of me feels like I should feel guilty, especially if it’s a book that’s been in my to-read list for ages and one I’ve been saying I need to get around to for ages but another part of me just knows if I want to avoid another reading slump I’ll just read whatever I want.
Yes, like I said there are some series which have great novella, and they add to the story in a way that’s actually interesting to read whereas others just don’t. Trust me, I’ll recommend ones that will be worth reading πŸ™‚ even though they are short!

      7. Well I certainly understand, reading slumps are the worst, and anyway I think what’s important is that we are enjoying ourselves, and not feeling forced to read books πŸ™‚
Well, when I’ll get into novellas,I need to ask you! Did you read the Shatter Me series? I’ve been hearing great things about those novellas…

        Liked by 1 person

      8. Exactly, if I force myself to read a book because it’s next on my to-read list I won’t enjoy it and it’ll take me ages to get to the end!
I haven’t actually started the Shatter Me series yet but it is on my to-read list. I’ve heard great things about the series in general but maybe if you do read the novellas you can let me know if they’re good πŸ™‚

      1. Oh mannnnnn. It’s definitely next on my TBR. I just started Falling Kingdoms’ spin off series “Swords and Thieves”(?) by Morgan Rhodes. That’s a good book!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. Yes! You’ll definitely have to let me know what you think when you’ve finished it, I’m so excited for you to read it now!
I’ve seen a lot of good reviews for Falling Kingdoms (I guess I’d need to read the original series before starting the spin off) so maybe I should add it to my to-read list.

  3. I totally need to reread The Mortal Instruments & Infernal Devices, Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, Mara Dyer trilogy, Shatter Me trilogy, and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. I haven’t finished 3 of those series but got stuck in the middle of them while waiting for the next books and just never went back to them. I’m so terrible, haha!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. That’s a lot of series! I do really need to re-read The Mortal Instruments and read The Infernal Devices, I have a copy of Lady Midnight and I can’t start that until I’ve got through Clare’s earlier books. Daughter of Smoke and Bone is amazing, is that one of the series you’re stuck in the middle of? If it is I’d highly recommend starting it again, the thrid book is AMAZING!
I have Shatter Me and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children on my to-read list so I’m hoping to get around to them soon, I’ve heard amazing things about both and I can’t wait to start them.

      1. Yeah, I’m not gonna buy Lady Midnight until I finish TMI.. And yup, I never read the final book of Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I plan to take a month this summer to reread series and finish the ones I just stopped in the middle of.
Oh, I hope you get around to them soon and enjoy them! They’re both really interesting books with some unique concepts!

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I probably shouldn’t have brought it before I finished TMI but I saw it and couldn’t resist πŸ™‚
Oh my god you definitely need to finish Daughter of Smoke and Bone. The third book was amazing, definitely the best of the trilogy and an amazing end to the series! I may have to do the same, one month dedicated to re-reads and finishing series, that’s a great idea!
There’s a movie of Miss Peregrine’s coming out isn’t there, the trailer looks amazing and I want to read the series before I see the film.

      3. Okay, you’ve talked me into it haha! πŸ™‚
Yes, Tim Burton is making it and honestly, I think he is a film wizard and everything he touches is gold! I can’t wait to see how Miss Peregrine’s turns out!

        Liked by 1 person

      4. Well that wasn’t my aim but I’m not going to complain about it πŸ˜€
Oh I completely agree with you, I loved Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and I can’t wait to see the second one in May(?). If the trailers anything to go by Miss Peregrine’s is going to be BRILLIANT! But yeah, gotta read the books first πŸ™‚
