Waiting on Wednesday: Gemina

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, which shines a light on eagerly anticipated upcoming releases.

This week my pick is;

Gemina

Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers

Release Date: 18th October 2016

Goodreads

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

Hanna Donnelly is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik Malikov the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

It has a cover (a really gorgeous cover, I am loving the blue), it has a blurb (it sounds even better than Illuminae), and I am now 100 times more excited for this book to be released than I was before. So what does everyone think; is Gemina a must on anyone else’s to-read list or are there any other books that you can’t wait for to be released?

    1. I LOVED Illuminae. It was one of my favourite reads of last year! I wasn’t sure about it at first but I brought it anyway because I loved Amie Kaufman’s other series and, if I’m being honest, because of the graphics and layout of the book 😀 I was already a sci-fi fan though so it wasn’t that far out of my comfort zone.
The covers are really pretty! And the actual layout/design of the story and the way it’s told is just as pretty in some places as well 🙂

      1. I haven’t read anything by this author, yet, but Illuminae’s been at the heart of bookish discussions lately, so I’m always curious. I heard the layout of the book is quite original and unique, and to be honest, it’s what’s making me curious, too, ahah :p

      2. I’d definitely recommend the Starbound series by Amie Kaufman then, the covers are gorgeous for those books as well 😀
I haven’t read any other books like Illuminae in terms of the layout. It’s definitely unique! I haven’t really seen any bookish discussions about it, there was a lot surrounding it when it was released though, it’s how I discovered it, I was curious about it as well 🙂

    1. No just my Waiting on Wednesday post for this week 🙂 sorry if I raised your expectations!
I only saw the cover and blurb last night but I had to feature it, Gemina is definitely one of my most anticipated reads for this year, I can’t wait to see how they follow on from Illuminae
