Top Ten Tuesday: New-To-Me Favourite Authors I Read For the First Time In 2015

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is New-To-Me Favourite Authors I Read For the First Time In 2015.

I read a lot of books each year, at the moment it’s just over 200, and while a lot of them are from authors I already know and love there are a few new authors that stood out for me. With so many of my favourite series coming to an end this year (The Lunar Chronicles, Penryn and the End of Days, Splintered) I need new books, new authors and new series to obsess over.

Amie Kaufman
Starbound series

While the only books I read by Amie Kaufman this year were ones she wrote in collaboration with other authors it was her name which drew me to Illuminae. Illuminae and the Starbound series are the books which made me fall in love with the sci-fi genre and I enjoy how Kaufman writes her characters and the worlds they live in; it’s dark and gritty but real.

April White
Immortal Descendants series

I love time travel books, I will probably read anything if there’s even a hint of time travel in the blurb, but April White’s series is my all-time favourite. I read all three of the books of The Immortal Descendants series currently released in as many days and I cannot wait for the fourth one. The series has everything I love, and more, and the history is clearly well-researched.

Melissa Grey
The Girl at Midnight series

I really enjoyed Melissa Grey’s debut novel, The Girl at Midnight, it reminded me of another of my favourite series, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and I am eagerly awaiting the second book, The Shadow Hour.

Victoria Aveyard
Red Queen series

Another debut novel. A lot of my favourite series ended in 2015 so I was forced to find other books to obsess over. The Red Queen series is definitely one of them. Now I just have to bide my time until Glass Sword is released.

Eliza Crewe
Soul Eater series

I read all three books of the Soul Eater series this year and I still cannot decide which one is my favourite. All the stories were equally brilliant and Meda is one of the best YA heroines I have ever read.

Laura Thalassa
The Fallen World series

After reading The Queen of All That Dies, Laura Thalassa become one of my favourite authors. I binge read everything she had written within a week and I am now waiting (im)patiently for more to be released. If I had to choose only two favourite new-to-me authors I read for the first time in 2015 it would be April White and Laura Thalassa.

Laura Ruby
Bone Gap

Bone Gap is the only book I’ve read by Laura Ruby but I had to include it. The writing and the story was so beautiful I couldn’t put it down until I’d turned the last page. And while at the moment I haven’t read any of her other books they are definitely on my to-read list.

Samantha Shannon
The Bone Season series

Like April White and Laura Thalassa, Samantha Shannon has become one of my new all-time favourite authors. I loved the first two books of The Bone Season series and I cannot wait to get my hands on the third one. I’m not sure why I didn’t read this series earlier, I have no excuse, but the two books that have currently been released are two of my favourites of 2015.

Renee Ahdieh
The Wrath and the Dawn series

Last of the debut novelists on my list this week. The Wrath and the Dawn was such a brilliantly written book. I’ve read other retellings of the Shahrzad myth but this one beats them all hands down. With the second book of the duology out next year I am incredibly excited to see how it all ends.

Rainbow Rowell
Fangirl

I’ve heard some great things about Rainbow Rowell’s work; everyone seems to love Fangirl and there was so much hype around the release of Carry On so I thought I’d see what the all the fuss was about. I’m glad I did. While Fangirl isn’t the kind of book I’d normally pick up it was incredibly written and I fell in love with the characters Rowell wrote.
